We are located in the township of Altandhu which is on the Coigach peninsula approx 25 miles north west of Ullapool.
The name "Coigach" is a typical example of a common practice in the language of Gaelic in olden times - that of dividing areas into fifths, probably for the purpose of defining grazing limits and of allocating peat cutting areas for the different townships. A professor Watson, in his "place names of Ross and Cromarty", nominates the five "Achs" of Coigach as Achnahaird, Achlochan, Achininver, Achabhraighe and Achduart, leaving out Achiltibuie which, today, is surely the best known "Ach" of them all.
The peninsula also comprises Reiff, Blairbuie, Laide of Reiff, Dornie, Polbain, Badentarbet, Polglass, Badenscallie, Culnacraig and Inverpolly.
